I was going to buy for the last couple of years... but could never find the perfect place... and prices kept going up and up..

Renting a very nice house at the moment, so will stick with it for the time being..

Owned my own home for 18 years - currently have about £145 000 equity in the house - profit in other words.

Mortgage should be clear when I'm about 45 so potentially 20 or so years earning power with no major outgoings and plenty of equity - hmmmm . . retire early, fancy car . . choices eh ?

Good move mate...congrats on the new house.I bought mine in mid 2002 and already have about £80000 in equity. Renting is just throwing money in the water.I know not all of us can afford to buy,but its good to move onto buying your own place when your'e able to.

yeah, but do you really want to jump into a market when its at its peak..

Play the numbers, in 12 months, I will lose 6 grand in rent... if the house prices fall just 10%, I would lose 15 grand..

Just got well and truly screwed out of the house that I was supposed to be buying - was renting it to buy.... then the owner discovered its now worth 150k and put me out my my ear

Now living in a small bit nice 2 up 2 down house - better area, but I miss my garage and a very much worked on garden.

House prices are so ridiculous - I dont know how people do it. If it means buying rubbish in a rubbish area, a house thats falling apart, or paying out more than the owners mortgage just to rent, but is in good repair and mucho nicer area then I will stick with doing this for now.

Just cant DO anything with the place when its rented can you!
