I seem to have lost my locking wheel nut box with the key in it and need to change a wheel!!

Just wondering, are all Avensis wheel nut keys the same?, like can I buy one from eBay and will it fit my Avensis, or
is every avensis locking nut key slightly different?

Thanks in advance for any help

Would probably be able to order one from your Toyota dealer.

There are a number of different patterns available on lock nut keys.  A lot of the online sellers will match your nut to a key using a picture, or the dealer should be able to help you.

I have never used these services myself.  I don't think there is too many possible variations of the key so I suppose they just match it by looking.  I'm not so sure that it is even neccessary to have lock nuts unless you have a set of really expensive alloys.  I don't think anyone will be stealing stock Toyota alloys.

You will find various devices which will break the nut/bolt, or advice to hammed a smaller socket on.

I had an issue where I lost a VW wheel key, and I was advised (by someone who works with VW (not for them)) that there is an anti tamper surround which will just break free if the outer sleeve is forced.

I don't know if Toyota are the same (I would look but my Avensis is away at the garage at the moment enjoying some therapy and a spa session)

Here is a tip to stop the locking key go missing if the car has to go to a the garage for service or repair. Replace the locking nuts with standard nuts! That way the person/mechanic doing the work, won't lose or forget to put the locking key back in the car. Plus they won't need to search the car for the locking nut! I had learnt this after the clutch replacement, when I had to go and retrieve the locking nut from the garage. Also happened to a friend when they had a tyre replacement. I think this is the most likely cause of locking nut key going missing.

I don't hear much about wheel theft these days, but you never know!

Good thinking, you would think not losing the lock nuts would be 101 for mechanics and tyre fitters, but apparently not.
