Android Auto Wireless

For those who are interested, I purchased an android auto wireless dongle https://www.aawireless.io/

I can confirm that it does work with the pre 2023 corolla (Touch2 Go?) Not sure about the new head units.

It's as simple and plugging it in and following the on screen instructions (an app is required)

I've attached some photos from my setup, I additionally purchased a right angle usb A to usb C adapter and usb C to usb C cable (comes with usb A to usb C cable) and with routing the cable to the glove box, I think it came out looking a lot cleaner and less noticeable.

@DavidTC as a matter of interest, is that a left angle or right angle?  My Yaris Cross for the cable to lie down needs a left angle.

These are like the proverbial rocking house poo.

I managed to get  6 inch cable and more recently a metre long one from Temu.  I am not convinced the Temu one works reliably as I  have been getting AA drop outs.

I will how my next car works.

The facelift (MY23 on) Corollas still don't have wireless android auto, yet they have wireless carplay!

One of the most annoying things about my car and something that could easily be fixed via an over the air update but Toyota don't seem to be bothered with a solution.

Might have to try this.

I have an AAWireless working very micely in my MY23 car.

The only difference is that you'll need a USB C to C cable. If anyone wants details I can post which one I got and how I hid the box (behind the lower trim in the footwell)

Wht did you not use a usb-a to usb-c cable as those “adapters” speed drop the connection.

remember.

White internal - slow slow slow gen 1

black internal - an “ok” gen 2

blue internal - good gen 3

red/orange internal no improvement over blue other than charging

I might give AAwireless a try then. What do you buy by hiding the box behind the trim?

Some details would be good thanks.

I bought this cable and it looks like this now

PXL_20240412_155404260.thumb.jpg.a52f29ba9185aa8568970d15728a8a6d.jpgThe connector isn't visible when I'm sitting in the driver's seat.

I hid it behind the panel in the passenger footwell like this

PXL_20240412_155456362.thumb.jpg.17bbe1c316b75437b332f2d4eb9805aa.jpg

The cable going into the AAWireless is just visible in the bottom left of the picture. The box itself is tucked in between the carpet and some sound insulation so it won't rattle (I wrapped a bit of cloth loom tape around it too).

The panel is easy to detach abd replace, just pull on the bottom right as you look at it and it unclips. Working the cable between the other panels so that you can feed it down to the box is the fiddliest bit.

What does this gain? The box is out of the way, but easy to get at if I need to. It's not near anything that will move, get hot or generate a radio signal and there is no problem with reception. The charging pad is unobstructed.

Hope that helps.

After getting the taste for hiding USB cables I ran another one (with a magnetic connector) from the arm rest box to the right side of the charging pad so that I can use a fast charger with my phone too.

I'm quite chuffed with these little "mods" as there's no cutting, drilling or even a sticky pad - so I can put it all back to standard.

I own a Corolla 2023.  In this vehicle, Apple Car Play works wirelessly and Android Auto works wired. For some reason, they placed the USB port of the multimedia at the left knee level of the front passenger seat, although it could have been connected to the USB port in the armrest. I bought a wireless Android Auto receiver and connected it, and put the device in the glove box, but as you can see, the cable was not looking good on the outside, and there was a risk of breaking it by hitting it with your knee. So I removed the glove compartment cover. There is 1 screw in the lower left corner. The same screw is located in the lower right corner of the driver's seat. I dismantled it too. I pulled the panel above the wireless charging (the panel under the climate control section) hard from both sides. Then I freed the USB socket from its teeth, connected the wireless receiver and fixed it in the space next to the pollen filter. I plugged the empty socket slot with a piece I cut from a glasses case with the same texture. I got rid of the cable. I wanted to share it with you to give you an idea.

Hi, I followed your guide and did the exact same thing with the same cable. I already had carlinkit.

Thank you for sharing
