Leg Pain

Over the last couple of weeks I've been having pains down both legs which making it very difficult to walk any distance. Been to the doctors a few times re this and been referred to a specialist re nerve pain.

I did have Covid just after Christmas and also had a few vaccines at the end of the year,  Flu jab, Pneumococcal and Covid booster, etc Just wondering if related to these.

Anyone else experienced similar type of leg pain ?

You really need to define the pain and its location.

For instance I have a pain that occurs in my left leg when walking. It is immediately under the right side of my knee cap.

I also have a pain in the muscle on my right leg on the outside of my lower leg.

The latter is related to a lateral pain if I cross my right leg, bend it in a particular way.

I relate these not for sympathy  but the need for you best description for best advice.

In my case I have had chiropractic treatment with a final session next month.  Quite honestly I think it has minimal effect.  Greater benefit has been schooling myself to avoid bending my right leg in a certain way.

Conscious concentration on unassisted leg exercises to strengthen the muscles helps too.

Hi Iain, did you have any of these problems before you had the various vaccines. If not then it's likely that the problems relate to this.

Did these problems come on all of a sudden or slowly over a period of days or weeks and have you noticed any other issues that you didn't have prior.?

Three years ago I suffered severe pains in my right leg, to the point that I called 111.  The medic who visited me suggested that I go straight to A&E. I dithered over this, and a couple of days later had to contact our doctors’ surgery.  The doctor said to come in at once and, after a brief examination whilst I was still there, he rang the hospital and I was admitted in less than a week.

I had a vascular surgery operation on my leg - cut open 53 cms from my crotch - and basically “re-plumbed”.  Periodic checks were carried out at the hospital over the next two years, until I was finally discharged.  Any significant distance of walking now gives me aches.

I realised that I could have lost my leg, so don’t ever ignore the problem - get to your doctor immediately if you are in any way worried.

I have been to the doctor over the last few of weeks numerous times, blood tests etc, pain is in both legs starting around both thighs going down to the calf areas.

I think vascular has been ruled out at moment and nerve problem is being investigated. Referral made to specialist, but really concerning 😟

Hi Iain,

Sorry to hear about you being in pain. I've had sciatica several times in the past, is it possible that's what you're suffering with?

I've been lucky in recent years and haven't had it return but it can be really painful, when at it's hieght mine felt like my legs were connected to the mains supply constantly. My recollection is that it starts high up near the base of the spine then travels down through the buttocks, thigh(s) down into the calfs and possibley the feet, caused by pressure on the main nerve that serves the leg(s). As you've had a referral already perhaps it's something else.

Hope it gets sorted for you quickly.
