I have a 2021 C-HR which I purchased May 21. Am I entitled to a free update of the above?

Posted

Possibly ... a 2021 C-HR should have come with 3 year Map Care and since it is only April 2024 you should be able to download and apply the latest available map update - which right now is the Spring 2024 Update.

Log-in in to your My Toyota account and go to the eStore to see what is available to you. If you have a valid Map Care subscription although the update will be priced at £119 in the eStore it will drop to £0 upon checkout.

Under Purchased Items it will show Active, Inactive and Expired subscriptions so that you can work out exactly where you stand ... 😉

Thank the OP - I wouldn't have looked had he not asked the question ... 😉

And proceed with a little caution - the formats look a little different and 'odd' to me. I'm writing the USB right now and won't get to check it out for half an hour or so ...

Indeed. I have already noticed that the zip file appears to be compressed "differently". Will see how I get on.

... and thanks for asking the question, bostin.

It failed! The car doesn't recognise the map update. Investigation underway ...

I note that it will happily do an OTA update but I'd rather not go that way just yet.

Yup, the numpties at Toyota have 'lost' the top level FMU folder and simply dumped the update files into the root directory - which doesn't work.

Simple to resolve. Create the FMU folder in the root directory and move the update files into it.

The update is running now from the tweaked USB ... 🙂

Would that it were so simple.

Unfortunately for me the file that I download is unusable - zip claims that it is corrupt. I have tried two different browsers and a command line method for the download all with the same result. I can see the manifest but cannot extract the content.

I have sent them a message with details so I guess I just have to wait to see what they come back with.

I've just now downloaded again - the download is fine, the Zip archive opens no problem, and the update files are still (incorrectly) at the root level. For what it's worth, I'm using Chrome on Windows but that really shouldn't matter ...

I tried extracting the downloaded zip using a Win10 VM and it unpacked OK.
I also tried repairing the 'corrupted' zip and extraction worked afterwards producing files of the same sizes.
I have copied them onto a USB with the correct structure and will try updating the car tomorrow.
I am also not expecting Toyota to get back to me any time soon with any help or explanations.

I discovered this when trying to update the maps on my Corolla at the weekend. I moved the files into an FMU and it then updated fine.
