Easy, buy a new exhaust.

Or you could buy some ear plugs.

Has it got an aftermarket loud exhaust on it?

Or is it blowing/leaking?

If bought from a garage go back to the garage and ask them to fix for you.

A noisy exhaust can also be a symptom of a clogged catalytic convertor (having been there and had that happen on the 1.33L 'oil burner') although I'm not sure if the 1.6 suffers in the same way.

Typically noisy when you accelerate and noisy at speed.

Hi Henry, a noisy exhaust on a car you just bought 3 weeks ago is concerning. There are a couple of ways to approach this depending on your comfort level and the car's warranty.

If the car is under warranty, take it back, exhaust issues are usually covered, and a mechanic will diagnose and fix the problem for free. Take the car back to the dealership where you purchased it and explain the issue.

If you brought the car privately then try to listen for the type of noise as it can point to the problem. A rattling sound might indicate a loose heat shield or bracket. A hissing or blowing sound could be an exhaust leak at a connection point. A deep, droning sound suggests a problem with the silencer itself. Over time, the nuts, bolts and clamps that hold the exhaust system together can loosen up and rattle. You might be able to tighten these yourself, but be sure to  not overtighten anything. A hole or crack in the exhaust pipe will cause a loud leak. Patching a small hole with exhaust sealant might be a temporary fix, but a more permanent solution is likely to involve replacing the exhaust section. Silencers are designed to quieten the exhaust, and they can wear out over time. A damaged silencer won't be as effective, making the exhaust louder.Hope this helps.

I've had a 1.6 auris from new. It has a very loud/sporty sounding (ironically) exhaust and always has had. Way louder than anything else I've had.

Do see if you can hear another 1.6 as it may be standard.  There are numerous threads on the forum and elsewhere about how noisy the 1.6 is - I've grown to like it!!!  Screenshot_20240417_220106_Chrome.thumb.jpg.efb4b71ee2a4c9739670d2ef3b86ff12.jpg

My auris is 2013 as well, it had the noisy exhaust, I think there was a 'Sports' version at some point and they installed it on this model I think (that's my theory), after 2014 models has quieter exhaust.

I bought a original exhaust nearly new from eBay, it was from a 2016 model that was stripped but the date stamped on the label was 2019, £110. Fitted myself, just needed a new gasket.

Sold the sporty one back on eBay for £75 so not bad at all.

Didnt they stop making the uk 1.6 petrol around 2015? I thought the 1.2T took its place in the lineup.

It was a 2016 but couldn't remember engine size 😀.

I digged out a picture, it was indeed a 1.2 part number 17430-0Y130 and the gasket 17451-0D112, if it's of any help.
