Refit External Trim Strip

My 2016 Yaris had been fitted with genuine Toyota black trim strips on all 4 doors before I bought it at 2 years old.  While washing the car yesterday I found one of the strips to be loose.  I decided to remove it, clean all old adhesive off and refit.  Can anyone recommend suitable double sided tape to refix the strip? Nothing I've tried will adhere to the plastic despite all traces of old adhesive being removed.

Those fitted to my car are secured by two strips of 3M double sided tape. The rear bumper moulding top protector is also secured with the same stuff.

I bought them from Toyota and fitted myself. The fitting instrutions did have specific measurements too. e.g. distance from door bottom to bottom of strip or something similar. I used a white board marker pen for positioning. It's a one shot job, so correct positioning is essential.

Hi Hugh, there is a specific type of double sided tape that works well, automotive grade double sided foam tape. The tape is formulated for a long lasting bond with car surfaces, including plastics, which can be tricky for regular tapes. The foam core allows the tape to conform to slightly uneven surfaces and absorb vibrations, preventing the trim from becoming loose again.

I would Look for tapes that are waterproof and heat resistant to handle car washes, rain, and sun exposure.3M They offer a variety of options like 3M and VHB Tape known for extreme bonding strength and 3M acrylic foam tape its a good balance of strength and conformability. Look for ones like 3M 4229P or 3M 3614 specifically designed for automotive trim. Indasa is another well regarded brand with a range of automotive moulding tapes in various widths and thicknesses. Make sure the surface of both the trim and the car body are thoroughly cleaned with rubbing alcohol or a pre cleaner recommended for the tape you choose. This removes any dirt, oil, or old adhesive residue that might affect adhesion.Different tapes may have specific application instructions regarding cure time or pressure requirements. Hope this helps.

Thank you both for your replies.  I'll try and get some of the tape you recommend.
