First Toyota, First Hybrid!

Hi everyone.

Having just got my first Toyota, a 22 plate C-HR GR Sport, I though I better say hello.

Having just retired I needed a smaller less juicy replacement for my 2Ltr Insignia estate and I have to say at the moment I am enjoying the hybrid experience.

I wasn't sure how the loss of 50Hp was going to be like but the almost 50% reduction in fuel consumption soon compensated!

Is it just me or does that 'ECO' gauge on the dash change your driving style?

Hi Dave,

Welcome to our forum.

Congratulations on your new C-HR.

I noticed the ECO gauge, comes on and off automatically on my Estima, depending on how fast the cars goes, it does engage automatically, and didn't notice any change on the dri3ve style.

I need to try and switch it off, surely the car will consume a bit more fuel and gives more power to the car......needs testing.

Hi Tarak.

Thanks for the welcome.

On the C-HR it replaces what would normally be a rev counter.

The graduations on it give you some idea of how much right boot your using.

As the idea of getting the car was to reduce fuel costs then trying to keep the gauge in the lower 'ECO' area does make me drive more 'economically'

My wife keeps comparing her results in the 'hybrid coaching' screen in the MyToyota app to mine - I must do better!!

It has altered mine slightly - I tend to try and keep the power demand in the first half of the Eco bar as that lets the car run on the electric motors as much as possible, and when I'm accelerating I try to keep it in the top half of the Eco bar as that keeps the car in its most efficient combustion mode, where in my case it just runs the engine at 2000rpm Atkinson-cycle mode.

I do still like jumping into the PWR band from time to time because it's fun and I like the thrum of the 3-cylinder when it switches to Otto-cycle mode    :naughty:
