can anybody tell me if any other toyota wheels fit an iq???

Posted

Yes. Almost all 15 or 16" original Toyota wheels with 4x100 stud pattern will fit.

Was the car's MPG affected by the wider tyres Abdul?

Also, is the speedometer still reading accurately ?

To answer your question, if my calculations are correct, a 175/65 R15 wheel+tyre has a total diameter of about 24.4 inches and a 205/45 R17 wheel+tyre has a total diameterof 24.1 inches.

So there is a small difference in diameter (approx 0.3 inches).

This results in the 17" wheel+tyre have a circumference which is 1" (2.5cm) greater that the 15" wheel+tyre.

Does this make any difference to the speedo and mileometer readings? Yes, of course. Does it amount to much? Well, there's a difference of about 6ft for every mile travelled. This is a difference of about 0.1%, so not much at all. If you travelled 50,000 miles with the larger wheels, the mileometer would be out by 50 miles, which is buggerall over that distance. And if you thought you were travelling at 70mph the speedo reading would be out by 0.1%.

...Unless my calculations are wrong, which they normally are :)

The wider tyres add 24.5 mm to the circumference, or 1.3% in relative terms. In other words, your speedo will read 1.3% lower speed than previously, which is well within the typical 5-10% reading above actual speed of Toyota speedometers.

Fuel economy will suffer slightly from wider tyres but will also - to a very small degree - be offset by the longer circumference.

Hi

sorry for the delayed response

I have been keeping track of the mpg since having the alloys fitted on I’m not getting any more than 45-47 to the gallon hmm 🤔 the original alloys on the IQ are thinner that’s possibly the reason is fuel efficient and also I I can’t just turn anywhere like I did on the original alloys bearing in mind I have the 16” for the 1.3 model if I am correct now in not getting anything more than 240miles from a full tank now

my theory is that the alloys I currently have are wider and more rolling negative resistance more grip on the road which is good but a massive loss on fuel if that makes any sense or a simple explanation the wider the alloy the less rolling resistance

the original alloys had been designed by Toyota for more rolling resistance making them more fuel efficient just like a bike tyre 🛞 it’s thinner but more efficient less grip on the road something like that if you’re with me

the 205/45/17 that I have on maybe too wide for the IQ when they go bold might give 195/45/17 a try

I think the speedometer is still reading fine not had a speeding fine yet not that I’m jinxing myself lol 😜

Hi

you are making sense

then that means I’m going slower but fuel efficiency if give or take 45mpg which is poor for the IQ

many thanks 🙏🏼 for the advice/explanation ❤️
