Hello

On a toyota aygo 1kr-fe engine

I am posting to you 2 pics one of the current situation and one from the manual I found online

Q1 - which is the correct marking?

Q2 - my timing gear mark and crankshaft gear do not align as shown on the manual

Q3 - did the crankshaft gear rotate by itself?

What I have done so far

The car was very weak and high fuel consumption so

Pistons removed cleaned as well as cylinder head, valve lapped, lifters turning by hand

I have replaced the chain set

Engine rotated 10 times and none abnormal noises heard

Once engine fired after general clean 1 cylinder misfired and the camshaft solenoid alarm 0011 appeared

so I double checked

-->

different spark plugs

Spark plug coils swap and removal while engine running

Air filter

Petrol injector to atomize

Compression ( 14,5 13,2 15 ) bars

All oil holes clean

Vvti solenoid clean and functional

Volt resistance all ok

Chain tensioner ok

Now I have disassembled the timing chain cover again

My thought is that the crankshaft gear has rotated and as a result the rpm - postion sensor is reading false althought timing is correct

But I haven't seen a new engine or a new crankshaft gear position

First time in the forum have been making research for a week everywhere on the topic and yet no solution

you have timed it incorrectly

you set the coloured chain links to the marks on the pullies in relation to tdc

1kr INSTALL CHAIN SUB.doc

turn it over by hand making sure all 3 marks and coloured links line back up

did you replace the crank sprocket ? iirc there are 2 types

edit. did you put the key back in the crank for the sprocket ?

My timing is similar to your instructions

And I have understood so far by comparing 30 videos of this procedure

That there are two types of crankshaft - timing sprocket and the main instruction book has two versions withouth mentioning a difference for the 1kr fe

After rotating chain a whole 5 rounds of 360° the 3 markings align as mentioned to ur guide

Yes I did put back the key to the timing sprocket

Then I haven't replaced the timing sprocket

I will definitely look up for the 2 types

If I have understood correctly the crankshaft gear is assembled by heating up by the factory producing the crankshaft as I wanted to purchase one as a backup before removing it and it comes already as a one piece with the crankshaft

I will post tomorrow as I have reassembled again today and waiting for gasket sealant to dry

Also additionally I found the oil control filter very dirty and almost blocked

Will try to start engine without it

a blocked ocv and/or filter will throw out the timing it will also generate codes that cause misfires and the engine will run rough and or die when slowing down after the use of 50% throttle or more (intake camshaft stays too far advanced)

check the resistance of the OCV

Yes the crankshaft reluctor is press fit to the crankshaft it does not move - newer crankshafts do not fit the older cars as the reluctors are different, the Aygo, Yaris and IQ all use different variations of the 1KR

Many thanks for the clarification regarding crankshaft gear and actual timing mark

Here is the start up

Here is the ocv location in case anyone needs it

also found a piece of metal at the solenoid vvt and removed it

So far drove 50km and all ok
