Reverse camera

Hi, I have a 2011 MK2 Yaris t spirit with the Tomtom navigation system. Whenever I put the car in reverse, the screen light up blue saying check surroundings. I have other cars that display the same lettering when activating the reverse camera. Is the car supposed to have a reverse camera or is it just something my car didn’t come with?

Hi Oliver,your car likely has a reverse camera that is possibly malfunctioning.The message "check surroundings" is a good indicator. This message is typically used in conjunction with a reverse camera to remind the driver to be aware of their surroundings in addition to the camera view. Many cars with reverse cameras use a similar message. It suggests the car's system is designed to work with a camera, and the message appears even if the camera itself isn't functioning correctly. While there might be other possibilities that are causing this (faulty wiring, software glitch etc.), the message "check surroundings" points towards a camera being present in the system. Reverse cameras are usually mounted above the rear numberplate, not necessarily exactly central. Have a look to see if there is a small lens-like thing there. 

Or perhaps a hole if it's somehow gone.

Our 2011 T spirt didn't come with reversing camera,  just Sat-Nav which is still in a draw as I took it out of the car before it was collected.

thank you i have had a look, no hole but found cables for perhaps a reverse camera!
