AC Oil

I know this has been covered a few times but I just needed some clarification.

Recently, I had an unfortunate knock with my car and as part of the repairs had to replace the bonnet and aircon radiator.

The replacement bonnet came from a salvage yard for this car and had the AC label missing and the repair shop had already recycled my old one. So can't tell what refrigerant or oil is needed (if oil is needed).

I have a 2017/66 plate auris. Anyone able to advise which refrigerant I need (I think r1234) and if I'll need the oil added.

Thank you 😊

Hi,

you need an ac specialist who work on hybrids. They will have the right oil ND-11 and the right gas, I don’t know what type will be as this is the year when many manufacturers switched to the new standard.

I did ring Toyota who stated it's the new refrigerant and quoted me a whopping £165 😭

I connected up techstream and the only DTC is B1423 abnormal low pressure, which makes sense.

The worst thing is £165 isn't bad for 1234yf - I've had quotes of £180 and £190!!

The problem is there is a monopoly on production of the gas so it's 3-4x more expensive than the old R134.

Blame whoever chose (or *cough*accepted the bribes*cough*) to make 1234 the new standard instead of CO2...!

One thing with 134 vs 1234 is the input jack port thingies are different sizes (And different threaded too I think) so you can't put in the wrong one without some effort Frankensteining various adaptors together.

Will it still need oil as part of the recharge and would anyone know if this is included or will Toyota look for an excuse to slap on some extra charges?!

Oil should be included - They all use automated machines to do it so as long as they press the right buttons (Not a given!) It should evacuate the system then measure out the correct amount of whatever is supposed to go in,

Is it possible to tell from the connectors on the AC pipe if it's the newer gas? Just curious if Toyota are trying it on...

Mines is a Jan 2016 model, so uses the older cheaper refrigerant. I have taken photos of high and low connectors with dimensions. I also have a yf refrigerant topup connector for another later car, which connects on the low side.

Thanks for this Solero, is there anyone who can share theirs with the new gas please.

Im guessing the capacity will be the same for both.

In case anyone's looking for a auris hybrid facelift Aircon label, I've attached one to this for future reference.
