Hi,

Has anyone fitted an after-market alarm on their Aygo second-gen?

And if so are there any recommendations as to who can do this around the South Yorkshire area; although I can travel out further if needed.

Thanks.

Phone around a few places make sure you get one that is insurance-approved (Thatcham-approved installer) most common alarm is a cat 2 -1 plip alarm (uses the cars remote fob)

from experience go for a Cobra Alarm, fitted many of these without issue over the years

a quick google

Hi,

The Cobra link is down for some reason regarding the CAT 2-1 PLIP. Thatcham Approved; is that on the device end or installer end?

The second link you gave; what terms did you use to Google search that?

car alarm South Yorkshire or Thatcham alarm

Thatcham Approved is on the device but needs to be fitted by a Thatcham approved fitter if you want it certified for insurance purposes

otherwise, you can pick up an alarm and fit yourself most sellers will give you a tech sheet with wire locations and colours for your car

Personally, I wouldn't brother with an aftermarket alarm.

1. Cost of installation

2. Possibly additional insurance cost

3. Add complexity to the system therefore a chance of introducing more problems.

4. Wear down the car Battery prematurely.  You can rest assure it will add more parasitic draw to the car.  And if you let the car sit for 3 days or more, the car may not start because the energy in the Battery have been lost while powering the sensors etc.
