Hi so my 94 surf engages into 4H fine from 2H but going into Low range i don’t get the 4wd light when pressed also the engine revs without moving the wheels. Then trying to go back to High range it grinds and won’t let me in unless i turn the engine off and select it.

jack, the grinding and low range engagement issue could be caused by a couple of problems. Its possible that worn internal components like gears or shift forks could be causing the problems in the transfer case. A misaligned or damaged linkage can sometimes mimic internal issues by preventing a clean shift. A couple of other issues whilst less likely should also be taken into consideration. The 4WD actuator, A faulty actuator wouldn't engage the front wheels in low range, explaining the lack of movement and the 4WD light not coming on.Vacuum lines and solenoids, Leaks or malfunctions could interrupt engagement.Wiring problems could explain the 4WD light malfunction, this is more associated with electronic systems.I would check the vacuum lines and electrical connections for damage.Hope this helps.
