Carina Shock Dust Cover Split

Hi,

I've been informed that the dust covers are split on two shock absorbers on my carina. Can anyone tell me how critical it is to sort this out? Do I have to replace the shocks or can the dust covers be replaced on their own?

Thanks!

As far as i`m aware (I`ll be corrected if i`m wrong) they`re not replacable. Obviously they`re there to protect the piston seals from dirt/ water etc so while not being vital you can expect premature failure of the shocker. Not catastrophicly expensive to replace the shocks tho.

The dust covers tend to degrade with age - when I sold my '86 corolla in 2002 they had been in shreds for about 4-5 years and didn't cause any problems with my shocks during that time.

Really not worth the time/cost/labour to replace them!
