hi, currently have a 2023 Corolla 5th Gen Hybrid, and considering changing to a rav4.

does the current Rav4  have the same hybrid system as the Corolla? or does it use an older system?

Hi J, No the current RAV4 does not have exactly the same hybrid system as your 2023 Corolla.Your Corolla uses the 5th generation Toyota Hybrid System, which is also shared with the new Prius. The current RAV4 uses a 4th generation hybrid system. This means the Corolla might have some advantages in terms of being a newer design, potentially offering improved fuel efficiency or power delivery.

That's not an entirely meaningful question ... the Corolla offers the choice of 1.8 and 2.0 litre hybrid systems and gen 5 of those systems is undoubtedly an improvement on gen 4.

The RAV4 has a 2.5L ICE - so bigger and better than the Corolla in every way and not really comparable with Corolla hybrid generations. If you were to look at variations: the original 2.5 hybrid appeared in the RAV4.4; the system in the 4.5 is entirely different (different ICE, different motors, the only thing that remains the same is the engine capacity); and the variant in the 4.5 PHEV is different again (bigger traction Battery, larger electric motors and ICE in a different state of tune)

thanks for the reply.  the current rav4 model  is around a while now, I see it was  updated with the newer 12.3 multi information display and I was wondering if the hybrid system was updated.

Hi J,You're right, the current RAV4 has been around for a few years without a major powertrain overhaul. While the 2024 model year did introduce some cosmetic changes, the hybrid system itself hasn't been updated to the latest 5th generation system found in the Corolla.

Fuel efficiency in the latest gen5 hybrids is very close to the previous gen4 especially if you do long motorway drives at high speeds 60+mph

The latest gen5 has real advantages in town driving due to the latest tech on the electric side- new smaller and more power dense electric motors and batteries, new lighter and smarter inverters and lighter transmission units with less friction losses.
Toyota small improvements are real benchmarks in the business. No one does it better then them. 👍

that's why I got  the Corolla TS recently updated,     looking at 4wd now as I want to tow a small boat, at this stage I will probably hold out until the new model hilux, and land cruiser are released to see what pricing is like.

Totally different cars, I think the Rav4 has the same system as the Camry.

Rav should be more economical on the motorway
