2005 Yaris steering feels notchy/sticky with gentle movement

Hi our 2005 Yaris vvti is lovely to drive but i've noticed when driving if i move the steering very very slightly left or right its a bit notchy or sticky

When driving normally or going round corners and roundabouts its perfect, but when moved slightly left or right i can feel it a bit sticky and then it frees itself up

Any ideas please as i understand theres no power steering fluid to top up

My first guess is it's probably the lubricant/grease in the splines that connect the steering wheel to the shaft that goes to the rack starting to dry out.

If yours has reach adjustment you can try moving the wheel back and forth a bit to see if that will spread the grease around more, but chances are it needs regreasing, which I'm lead to believe is a bit of a PITA job...
