T22 Fuel gauge went wild

Avensis T22 station wagon 1AZ-FSE. So first I lost the fuel economy/range from the display completely and two months after the fuel gauge itself has gone haywire and usually shows what ever but mostly below the actual amount of fuel. What´s broken?

Hi Raphael,given the symptoms you've described, the most likely cause is a faulty fuel level sensor. This sensor is responsible for measuring the amount of fuel in the tank and sending this information to both the fuel gauge and the onboard computer that calculates the fuel economy and range. When the sensor malfunctions, it can provide inaccurate readings, which would explain both the erratic fuel gauge and the loss of the fuel economy/range display.Hope this helps.
