I saw this news doing the rounds on the net in the last few weeks and I don't want to hold my hopes up but keeping fingers crossed like I have since 2015 🙂

Does anyone else find it hilarious that, of all manufacturers, it's Toyota that's releasing all these nimble sports cars, while the companies you'd expect to release sports cars are all releasing gigantic lumbering SUVs?

(I saw the new Lotus SUV on the road a few months back and wanted to vomit  I can't believe that's designed by the same company that designed the Emira! )

It's ironic indeed. But this is the thing with Toyota. They are not afraid to take financial hits in the short term in order to pursue a more fundamental vision. Others are forced to make more tactical moves to secure revenue. The likes of Lotus must sell stupid SUVs in order to fund what they are truly passionate about. Ferrari Purosangue anyone?

It's just the topsy-turvyness of it all - Toyota were the company that made the most boring pedestrian (albeit very reliable) cars, but now they are the only manufacturer aside from Mazda and Honda that make anything fun!

I'm not complaining, as it was a bit sad a company that had such a rich motorsport history turned its back on it for so long, and the GT86 was a pleasant surprise that gave hope they'd make a return to that segment, but I never expected them of all people to pull such an epic handbrake turn and go full ham on that segment just as everyone else pivots to building boring pedestrian SUVs

It's genius in a way, as everyone else seems to be winding down in that segment so they practically have the whole market to themselves!
