Missing component under bonnet.

Please help.

I've read lots of wisdom on here.

Just purchased a 2010 T27 1.8 petrol T4 manual tourer. Looks like a part is missing, and there's no Haynes to refer to. Left hand side of engine (near o/s wing)

With many thanks in advance.

Thanks, a/c doesn't work. Was checked before I bought it and told there was a leak in a pipe behind engine. I'm wondering if they took something out to do the leak test and didn't put it back?

No kidding there's a leak!

If you just purchased it from a dealer and they didn't advertise it as having no A/C, then I'd take it back to them and either get some money off or get them to fix it - If that pipe's been off for a while and moisture's gotten in there's a risk the whole AC system will be full of corrosion and there's a good possibility the AC compressor will need replacing, so could get very expensive to rectify...

Having looked at a schematic and it looks like there was no component, just that the tube has been cut, my guess is when they were trying to diagnose that there was a leak. So it has only been like that a day. If I seal it and get it fixed then hopefully no long term damage. Fingers crossed!

(I bought from a garage knowing that the air con was not working!

There is no need to cut the air conditioning pipe to perform a leak test! Or maybe the leak was just in that cut piece of pipe and they thought they could fix it...

I'm sorry, but I agree with Cyker: prepare to spend a lot of money to fix your A/C.

I would take it back. If they said there is a leak behind the engine they were clearly lying or at best not being entirely truthful.

I saw the photo so checked my 2009 1.8 Valvematic TR Tourer. My air-con is fully working! There is a self diagnostic system that can help give fault codes without using diagnostics equipment. The OP has a case of the 'Just rolled in', where someone with no clue has cut the high side pipe and not documented the reason!

Hi Andrew, you mentioned that you purchased the car knowing that it doesn't have a working AC. If the dealer was clear in their description, then it is your responsibility to pay for any costs to reinstate a working AC system. I would ask why you purchased the car knowing this unless you were prepared to accept the potential costs involved. If you purchased the car at a very low price, it may have been reasonable with the knowledge of the additional costs required to fix it. However, if the compressor and other components need replacement, any savings may well be wiped out.

I got a large discount on an already cheap (high mileage, high spec {150k, T4}) with pretty good service history, so have factored this in, though knowing I'm up if it's a new bit of pipe and a leak elsewhere to fix, and down if it's a compressor. I don't think the pipe had been cut when I first looked it over. .... Will book it in this week and will let you all know.

Many thanks for all your input - what a great forum (and car!!)

you can see in the pic that this screw is damage, i think that the ac pipe broke while they try to fix something like replacing the upper engine month or worst, if they took the engine off it brokes the pipe, they told was leaking ...

An update!

Fixed the pipe with something ordered from the States (via eBay). £50 + £25 delivery. Cut pipe abut to get it to fit (see pic). Air-con re-gassed (£69).

Very cold air con for the last few weeks!

Very Happy

Thanks for all your help!
