Quite a few members who have new Toyotas and the Intelligent Speed Assistance (speed limiters) ahead of July, are already aware of the system and the drawbacks, and the Club has had a number of topics raised on this.

I agree.  If the speed limiter does not prevent a driver from accelerating to get out of trouble (could be the only option), then that is fine.  Where the system itself makes a mistake - e.g., reading the wrong sign (adjacent road), then the manual override would suffice.

Regardless of any driver-assist technology, it is vital that drivers keep alert at all times and ensure that they and their vehicles are following all the rules.  For drivers who do this, driver-assist features should cause no more than a slight niggle.

Alan, sign recognition is wrong too often.  There are other safety issued too but on the whole I agree with you.
