Avensis "Parking brake inoperable

Hi! I am new here, i have a Toyota Avensis 2012 estate, with the error "Parking brake Inoperable" in the dash.

The parking brake has been set on when i stop the engine, and loosen as normal when i drive of. But the button has not been working because of the error.

I am wondering if anyone have had this error come up, when the brake pads where worn down? And if it went away when you changed brake pads/disks.

Does anyone have any suggestions to what it could be. The workshop says its the actuator, but that part hard to get (if possible at all) to get in my country. I really love my Avensis and do not want to get rid of it just because of a parking brake issue.

In advance, Thank you.

And i am sorry for any writing errors, english is not my first language.

Ask if it is anything i am unclear on.

Maybe you should check the error codes with obd scanner and try to delete them. Or just take negative connector off the Battery for a while. May not solve the issue but worth to try anyway..

Sorry to hear that...

Next thing you could is to check if the Battery is ok. If the voltage is below 12V it might cause some issues, like epb. However the car is still starting well.

Then the rear brakes: if something (caliper) is seized the epb actuator may react like that.

Yes, good idea to check the calipers to ensure the park brake mechanism hasn't seized. However, mine had but the handbrake still tried to work with no error. Still no harm to inspect to rule them out.
