Just noticed the starting price of a rav 4 hybrid in USA is $31,500 so about £24,000. 

£39,000 starting price here.

You are almost certainly not comparing like with like. I suspect it is not a hybrid nor include locally set state purchase taxes in that price.

Aye, I know what you mean.

For years now we in UK have been paying much higher prices for cars than the USA.

It's why when passing car dealers you see rows of buyers queuing up with one knee lifted up.

They are getting ready.

Of course though, I know it's many other factors besides dealer profit to explain why we pay such stupid prices for new cars, taxes and gubment for one.

Let someone else pay the Vat and initial depreciation is about the only way round it here I think.
