Oil usage.

Thinking of buying a Yaris hybrid with the 1.5 engine. Do they use/burn engine oil. I know that Toyota had a problem with this some time ago and wondered if it had been cured. Thanks in advance.

I've owned a couple of Mark3's and a couple of Mark4's Hybrids and none of them burned oil.

The only Yaris that really had a common chronic oil burning issue was the Mk2, specifically with the post-2009 1NR-FE 1.33L VVTi engine.

The problem was fixed in the Mk3's version of that engine (Which was later supplanted by the 1.5L 2NR-FKE anyway) and the hybrid engines never had a common oil burning issue like that.

I would say depending on the mileage. Cars with higher miles and those who were kept idle for long hours will eventually start burning oil pass 140k miles mark. Some earlier others later.
The best way to tell if it’s an oil burner is to look tile pipe end, who doesn’t burn oil has clear and rusty exhaust end and those who burn oil has black and oily exhaust, no signs of rust but black soot matter

That’s quite a long time Kevin 😂.  There were some early VVTi engines that due to a piston and ring fault, used nearly as much oil as fuel.  Luckily, these days, my experience is the same as yours.
