Check engine. mounts.

The engine mounts are in good condition, it only vibrates a small amount at very low idle speed.

Ours also runs a bit like that at tickover, which is around 650 rpm . From previous similar posts here, seems a normal thing for our older Corollas

Some suggest cleaning  the throttle body/ butterfly valve which we tried one time and it seemed to make a little difference, but not much.

OK, thanks for the information,I think it's down to the very low ldle speed, if you increase the speed very slightly with the accelerator pedal it smoothes out.

If yours is a cable operated carb then you should be able to adjust the cable stop to hold the tickover at slightly higher revs.

It is a cable operated fuel injection system.

As above, clean the throttle body/butterfly and should be adjuster screw probably set it round 850-900 rpm.

Do not know what type of cable adjustment you have, various images on the web,  but this video shows how to do it on some models,  if you can follow Peters broken English.

I have seen this video before, this is a slightly different engine to mine but this is not the right way to adjust the idle. I found this video which explains how the idle valve works and how you can adjust it from the original factory setting.

I'm only guessing but if you have a ECU the tickover should be adjusted via this

A common cause of idling just a bit rough is one cylinder misfiring, whether spark or fuel delivery. Worth checking the spark plugs, cables and air filters and running fuel system cleaner through for a while to see if it helps, possibly even get the injector(s) checked and cleaned.

I've found Peter Finn to be very helpful on various aspects of Corolla fixing, love his calm approach! I subscribed to his YT channel a few years back.
