Is there anything that explains how some roads are displayed? For example why do some roads have little circles along them? They are not always on the planned route and do not correlate with any particular road type.

I'll sort one next time I use it but it is just some roads lined with small hollow black circles

It shows paths you've driven in the past, as far as I've noticed, density of dots correlates with times you've used a certain road.

1.  It enables to retrace a route without setting a destination.

2. It reminds you of route that you might not wish to repeat.  

If it is like earlier breadcrumbs,  it does not remain beyond a certain limit.

Yes it fades after a while, I'm not sure how long the trail remains until it disappears.

Anyway, it's an optional feature and can be enabled or disabled in the settings.

I presume orange / red highlights indicate traffic on stretches of road? If so doesn't seem as accurate as TomTom or google. Red highlighted roads have not had much traffic in my experience so far.
