Is this normal?!

Hello there,

Recently bought a 2014 Avensis avant 2.0 Diesel. Since this is my first Toyota that I ever owned, I want to clarify, if this behavior is normal. When I switch AC on (on level 1 of blowing) the radiator starts immediately and stops after few seconds repeatedly until I switch the AC off. This happens even when engine is cold (morning starts).

Hello!

When the a/c is on, the radiator fan is controlled by the high pressure sensor in the a/c system. How often the fan is on depends on the outside temperature. The warmer the more often. While driving, the fan is usually not on.

So that is normal behavior.

Of course, it would be good to check the condenser to see if it is blocked by flies etc...

Yes it is normal and it turns always ON when compressor is turned ON.
AC compressor switches on and off unlimited times when AC is ON on your dashboard. I will recommend to you to get your AC system re gas and change your cabin filter, these is to make sure your hvac system works at its best and for longest time. Do so every 2-4 years.

Basically right... but the system still always loses a little refrigerant through the shaft seal of the compressor. The amount is practically small, and it will not affect the operation of the a/c for many years.

For example, my car is 15 years old and the a/c still works well. Never serviced except the cabin filter.

If the refrigerant amount goes too low, the a/c won´t start and then it is time to refill.

As long as there is even a little pressure in the a/c system, moisture etc. cannot get into it.
