Temporarily dead Yaris

I just acquired this ten year old Yaris so am learning the car.

After some impeccable behaviour it wouldn't engage either drive or reverse, the PShift icon stayed on flashing at me.

I seems to have sorted itself now but I wonder why  ??   I think I pressed the starter button twice because I didn't think the car had started, could this cause an issue ?

An actuated manual box that passed for automatic on earlier cars (MK2). They don't age well.

With the hybrids the engine won't necessarily start when you turn the car on. In fact it generally won't unless the ventilation is on and wants heat (which it gets from the engine). The car is 'started' when the Ready light is on.

Hi,

What you described usual happens after you have pressed twice push start button but you haven’t stepped on the brake properly or at all.
This way the car is set into ON mode, you can operate windows, wipers, headlights, see lights on dashboard but you can not switch gears, drive or start the engine. You need to step on the brake, push start button once and the car will go into ready mode and then you can switch gears and drive.
If it’s your first hybrid there is a lot to learn about it. Don’t worry and enjoy your new car. Once you ve learn a bit you will love it and won’t ever want to change to anything else.

:withstupid:

shift to P, means the driver's door is ajar, it's not in ready mode/running or not put in park

10 year old car makes it a 2014 so a Mk3 the only Mk3 autos are the Multidrive (CVT) or the hybrid
