Sat Nav failure

Hi folks, has anyone else had this experience. I took my Yaris into a dealership for a replacement 12 volt Battery. When it was returned to me I found the Sat Nav had a message saying I don’t have this service. I reported this to the dealership and they did a diagnostic and said it was non responsive and in the words of Monty Python the Sat Nav was dead, deceased expired etc. Joking aside I was told it would cost me over £700 to replace it. My question is has anyone else had a similar situation? It went in working and came out not working. They claim changing the Battery would not cause this. Thanks for reading this and look forward to hearing your thoughts. Regards Len

My initial thoughts to your description are that someone's trying to pull a fast one by the sound of it! 😧

Fuse?

Worth checking.

I recall that on one aircraft, it was an annual check to check every fuse.

I once found a fuse that passed a continuity check but would not pass the current.  It was a vertical glass filament fuse, the wire had melted and formed a thick global with a very thin wire above.

Does everything else work apart from the nav? (radio, mpg, camera, music, bluetooth etc)

Yes, it’s just the Sat Nav

I find it hard to believe they cannot fix the sat-nav if everything else is working, i wouldn't pay £700 i would get a new head unit with android auto/apple car play built in and use google maps for sat-nav etc, i have seen some nice ones online that are a straight swap.

They claim to have done diagnostics on the sat Nav module but were unable to get it working. It was fine and dandy when I handed the car over to them to change the Battery.

Can you guide me to where I can find the new head unit you speak of?

Make a complaint via email. If the respond isn't satisfactory i.e not going to fix it. Email Toyota GB to make a complaint.

Yes. It's a bit tricky as (no offence, but legally) you are saying this happened on their watch. Take it up a level or two and with luck you'll get a good result. Shouldn't cost Toyota GB a lot to fix it and it's worth a punt.

Not much point in going further than that. Things do fail given a bit of a push, and outside warranty it's your problem. Unfortunately.

It's worth a try. They could have blown/shorted the sat nav during installation of Battery, can be done if not careful of clamp placement.
