Hi all,

Looking for a new car.

Budget is max 7k. (Not much by today's standards)

Would love an Avensis estate, but there is not many unfortunately around here(Ireland) in my budget.

Found a private one, that is for 5k.

But mileage is 300k KMs.

Clutch apparently been changed .

Anything else to look out for with that mileage?

Turbo, injectors, dpf? Any handy way to check/test these out when inspecting?

Or is 5k for a 300k car mad money?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

These are all important, and I'll also bring up one more: the head gasket issue ( maybe I´m paranoid). After test drive when engine is at normal temperature and turned off, open the cap of the expansion tank to hear if there is excessive pressure. Correct sound is no louder than opening a beer can. If coolant has been sprayed around the tank, it is already in the terminal phase, no need to open the cap...

In general, a 300k km Avensis can also have many other issues: suspension, support arms (rear), brakes, alternator, air conditioning...
