Been in hospital for an operation on my back due to spinal stenosis. Slowly making a recovery and feeling a lot better.

Any of guys had or have this condition and how did you get on ?

Comments and tips appreciated.

Glad to hear you're on the mend.  How was this diagnosed?  What were your symptoms? My physiotherapist reckons I might have it.

Hi Ken, started with pains in both my legs, no back pain at all. Just got worse until I could hardly walk. MRI scan showed up the problem.

Quite frightening experience 😕

No experience of it Iain, but my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Are you able to drive and get out and about yet?

Hi Paul, I can drive after two weeks and can get out and about albeit slowly. Twelve week recovery period and I need to take things easy 🙂

Ah,a good while then.

Sounds like a bit of armchair traveling then if you enjoy doing that, with good books and internet.

I hope you have a bit of help at home with things and can get your shopping and such.

Seems that you are really positive though 🙂 which can only help.

Hi This is a debilitating condition, and sonal stenosis doesn't go away, i had my first spinal surgery nearly ten years ago on my lumbar spine. this was very painful causing leg pain in both legs . i had surgery to decompress L1 to L4, l5 and L6 were already fused. five years later i had to have cervical  spinal surgery when i began to lose my balance and the use of my left arm and leg, luckily this was caught early on and i had decompression of C1 C2 C3 after which i was much better an could now balance an then re learned to walk. the symptoms in my left arm and leg got better. In 2019 the symptoms returned, this time my balance became much worse, yet the GP and Hospital Dithered and Deferred for five months during which time my symptoms became much worse with my left arm amd leg became spastic, jerking and wobbling around with excruciating pain so much so I was on Tramadol for pain relief. BY the time of the surgery I was using a power chair to get round  the house. My surgery this time involved a discectomy of C7 with a laminectomy C5 andC6 were already fused. This surgery was too late to help and I remain a wheelchair user to this day. The moral here is push for the surgery very hard as it can only arrest the development of the condition not make it better.

Sorry to reveal such bad news. Never give in.

Best regards, Peter

Hi Peter, thanks for your reply. I'm really sorry to hear you've had such a hard time,  and certainly there was also a bit of a delay myself being admitted to hospital. My surgery was on L2 to L3 which seemed to go well with a good result so far. Once I was in hospital I couldn't fault the care I received and can only hope that I continue to recover each day. Fingers crossed Peter  🤞
