Auris coolant change

Had my car's 10 year service yesterday at 10yrs/72k miles. Was expecting coolant to be changed but when I looked at paperwork at home it wasn't. Online says change at 100k miles but service schedule says at 10yr/100k service. Obviously not there mileage wise but is 10yrs. Are there any informed opinions as to whether it should have been done? Thanks.

Schedule for the Auris says 10 yrs or 100K miles, whichever comes first, so I would expect it to be done. Mine had its 10 yr service at 67K miles and the engine coolant was done.

You will have paid for an intermediate service (70K) and paid the appropriate price. Somebody should have had a conversation with you saying the time/miles are out of sync and needs coolant change at "xx" amount of additional cost

It may be relevant that for mine, I explicitly asked for the 10 year service.

The online service portal suggests the 10 year service if I put my car details in so I’d expect a dealer to suggest that for a 10 yr old car ,regardless of mileage.

The car had its 10th service (all previous services since new done by same dealership on time rather than mileage basis as low mileage).  Was a full service costing £370. When I booked it online it said 10 yr/100k service, includes coolant change. When I signed it in it said full service including coolant change. On collection I was told coolant didn't need doing as not at 100k yet and looked ok.

Just spoke to one of their other branches as potential customer with same age/spec etc car (different plate from autotrader) and they said it would be done at 10 year service on basis of age whatever the mileage.

Think I will go back to the dealership and request the work be done even if it doesn't make me popular. After all, when it was signed in it said on the worksheet the change was included!

Just spoken to them and apparently it was done but was not recorded on the invoice due to an oversight. Technician and manager just confirmed to me on the phone the advisor wasn't properly informed apparently.

They would send me revised invoice with it on if I'd like. Not great from a Main Dealer but I can only take their word for it really.

Bit poor for a service advisor not to know the schedule (or at least check it) but at least it’s been done. If the schedule says change the coolant at 10 yrs,  it’s not down to someone’s opinion of how the coolant looks.

This is just another  example how bad service in dealers network is.
If me I won’t trust them now at all. The thing is that with coolant almost impossible to tell difference between old and new based on colour and appearance so they could have easily lie to you. If me I will further investigate. Check drain plug for signs of wet, is the plug easily turn, level of coolant and also take example from the reservoir and see if any smell of petrol is present. And if I catch it’s not changed then they will regret their behaviour .
What is next it’s your personal choice. Even if not changed not a big deal but best to be replaced at your next service, or just buy 5ltr ready mix pink coolant and change it yourself.
Honestly I think these examples shows how dealers who should be the best place to service your car are actually not. , and actions like that easily bring problems in the future.

Ditto the above, assume dealer has not changed it, they will tell you absolutely anything to avoid so they don't want to do

The Toyota coolant will be Toyota Super Long Life (pink). First change at 10 years/100,000 miles, and subsequent changes every 5 years/50,000 miles.

Just to conclude this......  after filling in the Toyota feedback questionnaire after the service (where I gave my positive general opinion but highlighted the issue detailed above) I got a call from the aftersales manager. He claimed to know 100% work had been done as he had to issue the coolant on the day to the mechanic as it was missing from job sheet. He offered to test the coolant to demonstrate it is new or replace it again if I'd prefer.

I've decided to take their word and leave it. Coolant cap had been removed during service due to marks on it. Can't check drain point to see if that looks to have been undone. Suspect it has been done as seemed genuine on phone - also not a big job for them so why continue with the story if not true!

Either way car will be 11 at next service so will go to local mechanic as outside of Relax scheme. Won't pay extra to have it maintained at main dealer after last few experiences!

Looks very bright pink. Brighter than on my 7 year old avensis (which is actually below the low level - glad I checked)!

@Willss Toyota SLLC pink coolant lasts really long and is stable. There is no need to worry too much if you have a hybrid.  Ideally, we should change every 10 years or 100,000 miles, but even if you double it, it will still be fine. Just not ideal. I changed mine at 7 years old, and the coolant is 100% clear with no debrees at all.  You must use phospated HOAT, not european Silicate base HOAT. They are not compatible. You can just buy it from the dealership. It takes me 15 minutes to do the coolant change for engines. I can snake my hand under the opening near the faucet of the radiator.

I probably will do a coolant change again at one point when I want to change the waterpump.  I plan to change the waterpump at 200k miles, just for the shake of my ego and peace of mind. 2ZR-FXE waterpump malfunction is one of the main cause of blownup head gasket.

From personal experience I can confirm that engine coolant does need change at recommended time/mileage intervals as with the time combustion gases does mix with it and the coolant gets darker and starts smelling of petrol, the picture is very similar to engine oil.
100k miles or 10 years, and then every 50k miles or 5 years is the sweet spot.
The inverter coolant is not exposed to combustion gases and therefore has longer intervals for the first change 150k miles or 15 years. Then after together with the engine coolant, every 50k miles or 5 years.

These recommended intervals together with spark plugs, engine oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, differential oil, hydraulic fluid on some other models are as per regular maintenance of the vehicles and to prevent premature failure on their components.
Most of these intervals can be extended or postponed but then the following problems may begin so not worth it. Change on time or earlier is the key for trouble free motoring. 👌
Here I have followed strictly the manufacturer recommended intervals and so far I never had any problems. My car is approaching 300k miles and with a bit of luck around new year or just after I will see these numbers and share with you. 👍

Yeah, this 3rd gen hybrid system is solid like rock. I know from statistics that the hybrid Battery still needs a replacement at one point, probably~15y or 200k miles if we drive in city a lot. mix 50/50 can reach 300k miles or more.

engine Coolant 10y and then 5y

ATF is 6-10y

oil 6m-1y depends on short or long trips heavy

sparklugs 60-120k miles, depends on regions. US 120K Miles. Because most Americans drive at average 12.8y old cars. they keep the car very long, minimal necessary maintenance is enough for them.

Brake fluids, check them first, change it when water >3%, usually it gets darker too. 2y recommended in Europe and no schedule in the USA.
