Just to clarify, when I say the key'd cars only get one key, I mean 1 full key - They should also get a 2nd 'dumb' key which only starts the car but doesn't have remote central locking function. (And also sets the alarm off if you lock the car with the remote then unlock the car with the key...)

Either way, you have to have 2 keys as if you lost both keys it becomes very expensive because officially you can't code new keys without at least 1 master key present, and you'd be up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

With the 'key' systems, because compatible 'dumb' keys exist, they can be programmed as masters, so even if you lost your real proper remote locking flip key, they could use the dumb key to make a new one.

There is no such alternative with the smart-entry keyless system cars, so they have to give you 2 'full keys' so that you have a usable spare in case one goes missing.

This is also a good PSA - If you loose one key, DO NOT just carry on using the spare - Get a new one made ASAP! It's expensive and you might feel you want to put it off because of the cost, but that cost is nothing compared to the cost you'll be hit with if you loose the spare one as well!!!!

Were they both the same kind of key...? If so, is a good sign they've sorted out their chip shortage issues. TBH I figured they'd have sorted this out ages ago...!

have been now told that my premier that I'm picking up on Wednesday, does now have 2 keys, so will see what type they are... also I'll see what the situation is with the digital key its supposedly got

Picked up my premier today...2 physical keys 🙂..dealer couldn't get the MyKey on the app working...the app didn't seem to give the option to download....TBH, I'm not sure the dealer was that familiar with the App... Has anyone with a MY24 Yaris X managed to get to the MyKey function working ? Thanks

If anyone else is wondering where the digital key that part of the MY24 introductions, looks like delayed in testing and wont be released until September earliest, maybe later.

Was getting car serviced last week, overheard a lady telling the person at the service counter that she only had one key, it was supposedly ordered for her but the receptionist was filling out a form to order her a second key,!..must be a widespread problem..

Originally, all the non-keyless cars only got 1 proper key by default (And a 'dumb' key), ostensibly due to the chip shortage, but dealers were supposed to contact owners to give a 2nd one for free later.

I am surprised this is still happening, as I thought the chip shortage was mostly over!

when i collected mine a couple of weeks ago, it was still an issue - cars were coming through to dealers with either 1 or 2 and they didnt know until they did the PDI, although I had 2 with mine. The digital key is supposedly aiming for Sept release, although apart from the X premier I dont know if it is going to be usable across all MY 24 cars and if chargeable or not
