Engine switched off, lights off, parking brake on, automatic gear box in P position, proximity key in my pocket. Car gives warning sound with nothing on the dashboard when opening the door. Cannot lock the door. What could be the issue?

Boot not closed properly..  close all doors, open the boot, close boot and press upper (close) button on boot handle.

Thank you

I tried doors and boot - it did not help. Fob Battery was replaced 2 weeks ago.

Eventually, i pressed Start/stop button once without pressing the foot brake and it solved the problem straight away.

to my understanding the car was in kind of ignition mode... not sure why

Glad it's fixed, always remember there is a(n emergency) key in the remote that you can use too 👍

I recall having read elsewhere in this forum that steering wheel position could in some cases interrupt the locking sequence and produce an alarm.

It does indeed - I was almost calling out the AA to recover me as I was in a remote car park and the engine would not start, nor the doors lock when I wanted to leave it.  The steering wheel lock was not fully engaged so stopped locking and also caused the long beep.  Moving the steering wheel slightly caused it to engage properly and all was good after that!
