Anyone faced into the dreaded conversation....

Mine started with .... no and kind of stopped there. 🤣

Reality though is she drives a i30 13 plate although only got 38000 on it. Quite rusty underneath but I guess that's expected. Fine on viewing although no Apple car play which drives her crazy!!!

Trade in value 4.2k...

She knows I'm clearing the finance on my rav4 in Feb so I'm guessing she's trying to use this as leverage to get me to divert my current 337 to a new car for her over letting her drive mine.

Married life....

Mine won't even try driving my car, however we're getting to the point (or at least I am) where we need a car where she can help with the driving, so I'm swapping the RAV4 for a Yaris Cross. In the meantime she is happy driving her IQ with only c25k miles on the clock that we'll keep on the road until it is no longer economic to do so.

Proper response would be:- Certainly you may use my car and if that is the case you clearly don't need one so we can manage with one car in the household. That is sure to stop her asking.

Yeah I think keeping her i30 is the same as well. Pocket the cash monthly until its needed!

No, that will simply result in you not having a car ...

Just say no. Like Zammo in Grange Hill. 🤣

All seriousness my wife did want to drive mine but at the same time she has never driven a big car and never an automatic either. So that's a bit of a learning curve.

The company insurance covers any driver 25 or over fully comp but I really just couldn't face the massive pile of paperwork if she bumped it.

She has her own car, a modern Mini, and is planning to get a nearly new Cooper so I think her appetite has waned.

I have still offered but she's not taken it up. 🙏

My partner dosen't like automatics/never driven them so it's like the devil to her an automatic car...

As a result both of my cars are automatic.🤣

Back in the early 80s , my then wife started to show interest in driving.

I asked her what type of car she would like, obviously restricted to what we could afford in those days.

She said, and I ain't making this up,"a white one"

So we had a drive around to look at the dodgy Dave dealers, and she spotted one that she really liked the look of,a late 70s Yugo hatchback in white.

Even back then, young and naive, I knew not to buy into that kind of crap.

So, she finished up with a MK2 escort, and put it in a ditch in the first week, fortunately not hurt.

A bus stop was nearby.

SWMBO is very fussy when it comes to cars!! It must be automatic, have a memory seat and auto boot, other than that she quite likes white as a colour!

It always disturbs me how many people pick a car based purely on what colour it is!!

I know!

I wanted that metallic blue with tan leather and contrasting stitching ideally.

But settled for thunder grey, speckly cloth, and reliability with a Toyota Badge on both ends.

Btw, that MK2 escort was some sort of Dijon mustard yellow.

Maybe her desire for a white Yugo overcame her instinct not to put it in a ditch.

I didn't understand at the time,as all you had to do to start it was open the bonnet, and set the choke, as the cable was broken.

Hit the starter motor with a handy hammer supplied with the car, then pump the accelerator three times, get out of the car and shut the bonnet, and away you go.

I really think a lot of drivers are spoilt.

Hah, back in '95 my mate had a red Yugo which required the exact same treatment to get going.
I never knew the reasons, but that sounds like the same.
I just knew he had to carry a wooden baseball bat type thing to whack it with, so he was always last in the convoy on a road trip.
Good times...

In the 1960s my soon to be wife,(stil is incidentally ) wanted to drive my 1952 convertible Morris Minor despite the fact that the circlip that held the gear lever in was broken. You had be very careful when changing gear that the gear lever didn't come out in your hand, also  you had to touch a piece of wire  to the steering column to blow the horn. Since then she will drive anything regardless of size, shape or condition.

Understandable, anyone who drove a morris minor would be of the same opinion, nearly as bad as old minis.
