Toyota Avensis Hand Brake Not Working

My car is rolling I also have to turn engine of and back on to press the hand break as it isn't working any help please

It's not clear if automatic handbrake is not working (and manually working) or both automatic and manual mode not working (mechanical failure). Visit garage/ workshop!

I think Debs19 needs to get some diagnostics done, especially with a Toyota specialist. As some of the YouTube mechanics say, some idea of where to look is needed. 
In my experience with my early version parking brake, the faults tend to be with other systems and the parking brake worked manually. From Debs19 description, she has to switch off then on and the parking brake will work, unless I read her statement wrong! That means the EPB unit is working, but something else is the problem. Also her car being diesel tends to throw more fault codes than the petrol - EGR for example.
