That's sadly typical.

Straightforward though. Just select the dab audio source and top right is the settings icon from memory. You'll get the fader and equaliser etc.

That's very helpful. Thank you.

This is not just Toyota my experience of many years of different brands of car ownership is that when it comes to the Head Unit, navigation, audio systems the dealers are rubbish. I’ve never had a good one. I recall an issue with a Skoda dealer, who were a very good dealership otherwise, trying without success to sort out a well advertised ability to sync POI’s into the Sat Nav. They even sent a guy on a two day course to become the expert. Sadly I still knew more about the system than he did by just using the Briskoda forum, for UK Skoda’s.

But did he actually go on a 2 day course??

Same in my part of the Toyota world - sales people don't really know the product functions & seem shocked when a humble technician corrects them or shows them a standard factory fitted function that the sales person knew nothing about.

when I bought this car, having had a 2012MY, the dealer's "product specialist" was meant to spend an hour or 2 with me going through everything. As above, I showed him things that I knew that he did not - he ended up asking me if it was OK to 'phone me if he had any Avensis questions ... 😛

Sadly he did and was very happy with his Skoda certificate hanging on the wall. In the end it was a situation where it would never work as intended and I spent a lot of time, along with others of the Briskoda forum coming up with work arounds. The next Yeti I bought worked out of the box as far as the POI’s was concerned. Of course we have car play, WAZE and AA etc., now.

(Slightly) off topic I was looking at the Corolla when the estate version came out, I was looking at that over the hatchback due to the extended wheelbase giving more legroom in the back. The sales guy wasn't aware of the difference, saying they were identical (I ended up with a C-HR with it's poor rear legroom but lovely to drive)

Without any adjustment I thought they had put a 1980s car stereo system into the car. It was worse than awful.

However, after playing with the settings, balance, fader, boosted the bass and treble,  I can honestly say it is as good as the JBL on the last car to my ears. I was very surprised. But I had to change the terrible default settings which made everything sound like a poor man's stereo coming from the dashboard speakers.

Good thing is you also seem to be able to set things separately by audio source. Phone (AA or Car Play), DAB, FM.

All set up now and I'm very pleased.

It's a really great car and that was my biggest worry. The seats are better (comfort, body holding) although they lose the cooling feature. The suspension is firmer and much more in keeping with the car's power. And it looks great.

I did a write up on here. It's finally here... GRS Vs ... Or some unhelpful title like that. It's about a 10% improvement all things considered versus the last R4P I had for 3 years.

Would you be willing to share how you changed the settings and the equalizer?

Each audio source has its own settings. That's the first thing to note. So DAB, FM, Car Play, AA has to be configured separately.

Once you have a source selected you need to go to the toyota main menu screen. If in AA you need to press the Toyota icon in the apps list. Then I think click on the music icon and head to the sound settings.

At this point you'll see a typical balance and fader diagram plus bass, treble, mid.

Push the fader back to -3, push the balance away from you by 1, increase treble to 3, increase bass to 2.

Minor adjustment, makes a huge difference. For some reason the default settings put all the sound through the dash Speakers which sounds awful.
