Celica Must Go - But What Do I Buy Instead?

Hello all, I'm new here and wanted some advice please.

I currently own a 2000 lagoon blue Celica and need to change it for something more practical as my 2 kids are growing fast and I've a 3rd on the way at Christmas - my husband has suggested Citroen Picasso / Renault Scenic but I feel there has to be something roomy & practical that's also dynamic to drive???

My Celica is fantastic and I'm loathing having to part with it, I just keep telling myself that it's only for a few years!

So how would you go about selling a nice Celica with 54000miles? Private? or would it be best to trade it in against a more practical characterless box? I've had it in Autotrader for 2 weeks with no luck at all.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Enjoy the bank holiday weekend...........Amanda

DONT do french. They fall apart at the first sign of a bumpy road and are unreliable.

If you like the Celica stick with the Toyota marque. Virtually unbeatable reliability and good resale values. You`ve only got to look at the JD power index.JD POWER LINK Perhaps a Corrolla would suit your needs??? :D

Morning Daktari, thanks for responding. Do they do the 'larger' version of the Corolla like they do with the Yaris then? I think a normal Corolla would be lacking in interior space for my needs, had one as a coutesy car recently when the Celica was serviced.

May I ask you what you think my car is worth? It's a 2000 on a 'W', 54000, full Toyota history, taxed and tested, 140bhp 6 speed manual, leather, climate, and importantly the current owner is a careful female! LOL. They appear to hold their value well, here's what I put in my ad in Autotrader...........

...........2000 TOYOTA CELICA VVTI, 2000, Wreg. 54000 miles, Fsh, t & t, 140bhp, 6-speed manual, leather, climate control, sunroof, sports pack, spoilers, full electrics, airbags, Sony cd. £9,995 . ono

it seems average compared to others in there......... If you were going to spend that amount of money on a car though, would you buy private from someone's house?

To be totally honest. If i were going to spend that ammount of money, I`d go to a main dealer. They will give you probably the best trade in on your current car, plus you`ll get a good warranty on the car your buying.

They do a Corolla Verso which is what my ex father in law currently has. He swears by it. (Not my cup of tea incidently) Good write up here. Corolla Verso Link. :D

Thank you both - I've got some research to do! Don't think I've seen a Corolla Verso on the road yet.............

I just noticed the 'For Sale' forum on here - I need to become a member in order to post - I suppose I'd be targeting the right audience by advertising there...........

Do many cars get bought on this forum?

erm.

Firslty, french cars arnt that bad.. after all, the Yaris is built in France..

But Citroen are that bad.. of course, you cant beat the Japanesse for relability, even if they are a little dull.

the corrola verso, damn fine car, but it wont get your pulse racing like the celica.. perhaps a comprimise is needed? i mean, do you need a MPV?

Something like an IS200 or accord perhaps?

Yeah, its worth advertising, a lot of people looking for Toyotas happen across this forum..

Yes i think so. Quite often posts crop up with 'i`ve just bought such and such off so and so. Anyway as they say. Any adverts a good advert. Spread the word and happy hunting. :D

Your selling it at the right price, trouble is there are plenty of them about. so it might be better dropping the price and getting shot of it, try eBay and put a reserve price in.

also put a ad in the for sale section at www.celica-club.co.uk

its free just reg.

sorry for the plug just trying to help.

How about something large saloon size like a TDCi mondeo, good cars with fairly decent handling and enough torque to propel you forward.

The verso as suggested is a nice car. But basically just have a look around the japanese dealers, although they are quite expensice new. So it really depends on your budget.

Also pop into your local dealer and ask how much they would give you for a trade in against a new car. Can't hurt to ask, then you can decide if you want to trade it in or sell it on privately.

A good point to remember is to negotiate with dealers to knock down the price in the same way you would private. This applies to new stock and used.

Heres some links to look at various models, they should give you the model range plus prices:

Mitsubishi

Toyota

Nissan

Skoda

Ford

Audi

Car supermarket finder

Car money saver

There you go, plenty to look through there! ;)

With regards to selling privately, I normally get the price from here and compare it with the lowest and highest price from autotrader (say search for upto 100 miles) and that should give you a good indication of a sellable price.

Have fun!

A toyota can be made in timbucktoo as long as it uses Toyota parts and materials and is built to toyota standards then it doesnt matter were it is built!... you know that!
