Out this morning and noticed both a 2019 & 2023 Corolla with the DRL’s looking like 3 LED’s under the edge of the bonnet.

My Excel has them looking like a flash near the headlight. I’ve never noticed this difference before, is it trim level dependant?

Yes, the icons seem to have the old leds like the Auris.

Higher up models get more stylish swooping led on the front - although I quite like the 3 led setup on mine as it's super bright.

Our 72 plate GR TS has these lights my 23 plate Excel has what are called the J light system when the DTRL's are also the indicators.

Thanks guys, hadn’t noticed the difference until the other day. I ordered my car in August 2019 and it didn’t arrive until the end of November 19. In that time I hadn’t see one on the road and it took two years before they appeared regularly. Now there are loads about so I should really have noticed this difference sooner.

My 2019 gr as 3 leds, when the headlights come on they go off and the sidelights strip come on over the leds pity they couldn't make it all the way around the light unit .

DRL doesn’t really matter much. It’s just look, however functionality on the headlights of the excel spec cars 2019-2022 is totally different and they are far superior than all other specs Corolla. These projector leds are brighter and provide excellent light ahead where icon and the rest has somewhat not as good lights. Yaris, Yaris cross except entry level halogen lights  all others has good lights. These little on first sight differences can be ultra important for some drivers, espresso those who drives mostly at night.

Drl's do matter they are a safety feature to aid visibility. The ones with the 3 led drl's  are very bright ,many a time I've pulled up behind someone and I thought I had the headlights on in broad day light , Renault cloe have similar and they are bright if not brighter .

They can be a lifesaver for motorcycles and bicycles as I already did a test a few years back on my ebike.

DRLs are intended to be a visual warning to other road users (pedestrians, cyclists, motorbike riders, motorists, etc) that they are being approached by a moving motor vehicle.

Agreed, ALMOST make side lights redundant OTHER than from the rear.

Can you remember the UK “DIM DIP” system. Only had that on two cars.

Yes - had to bypass the corroded dim - dip resistor on a old Metro back in my youth so it ended up with dip - dip instead 😅

I didn’t meant that drl themselves aren’t important, what I meant to is that their shape or form it’s not so much of an issue as long as you have drl.
What is more important is that for those who drive at night the excel spec cars has so much better  headlights than all other models in uk.
For Yaris and Yaris cross and some other countries like Ireland the entry trim of Corolla has a halogen bulbs headlights that are so poor that imo should have been banned from sale., don’t know how they are even legal.

I agree about the Excel light, best lights I’ve ever had and I’ve had some good ones. As for bad, will almost any older car are very poor. They weren’t good when new but got worse with age. I’ve got a 1999 Xantia with lights that were okay but because modern cars are much better, they now feel/look poor.
