Hi all,

This is an urgent call for help.

I went out in my car last night well chuffed after working on my boot install some more and hear what can only be described as a grinding noise coming from the front passenger brake.

I drove it home a and checked the disc brake surfaces this morning and the inside (the side you cant see) is absolutely had it, its so grooved im scared of taking it out again incase i hit the vented bit!!!!!

The situation is that i need new disc and pad, please can someone recommend some pads and discs that arent too ott on price and can be delivered next day.

Also has anyone fitted them themselves and is this hard as i need my car for Trax next weekend and im not driving her again till shes fixed.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Thanks,

Matt

Discs are easy to fit.

You need to take the wheel off.

Then take the caliper off (2 bolts)

Then the disc just pulls off as it is a floating disc clamped in place to the hub with the wheel.

I don't know if they are shared with Sera, in which case I have them, or if they are shared with Starlet, in which case most factors, eg Partco, could order them in for you.

Convention dictates replacing both front discs at the same time otherwise you can end up with uneven braking (one thick disc, one thin disc).

well if you want them next day, try Halfords! but they will be crap.

I would recommend the following discs:

Black Diamond

3G

Delphi Lockheed (on a budget)

EBC Turbogroove (the standards are crap)

Following pads

Ferodo DS2000 (if you can get them)

EBC Green Stuff

Mintex racing, i forgot the model number

Don't buy the following pads, they are CRAP!

Delphi

Ferodo Target

Fitting wise, the caliper bolts on a starlet are seriously tight, i had to use a 2ft long breaker bar to shift them, and if you are gonna use cheapskate sockets on the caliper bolts they may round off (from past experience!). also a G clamp to push your piston back in is necessary. other than that its pretty straight forward.

have a nice day

I would go for the Mintex or Ferodo pads, plus 3G discs (if available for Paseo), otherwise standard.

think it may be a wheel bearing

don't think its the wheel bearing, if that was screwed you would definitely hear more noise going round corners because they are tapered, there is more "contact"

to check, jack your car up and spin the wheel round if there is no noise then thats good, now give them a tug and see if there is any play in the wheel. if there is they are screwed and you need new ones!

I think its more likely to be your brake discs, although make sure you havne't got a stone trapped between your disc shield and your disc. Just run a screwdriver round the inside of the bake disc and lift any stones out. but careful not to damage the discs - although as you mention they probably need changing anyway.

Also make sure your pads don't have warning indicatiors on them, they are like bits of metal that stick round the side, if they touch then they will make a squeeling/grinding noise and will indicate you need new ones.

hope this helps mate

have a nice day

try www.brakesinternational.co.uk all the prices are there and sizes , some discs need to be smashed off using a heavy hammer , as they rust to the hub , best to use copper slip on the backside when installing new ones for future disassembly.
