Automatic boot opening question

My new Yaris Excel has the ability to open the boot automatically following a little tap under the rear bumper - it has worked if I just slide my foot underneath, actually.  But for the last two days there is no response.  Does the car have to be in Ready/Accessory mode or something?  I have tried both without success. I can open and close manually but I'm just wondering what I'm doing wrong!

You haven't been in to the settings menus & accidentally turned it off?

You have to centre yourself then move your leg / foot as if you are kicking a football.

Yes, it's a slow kick, not a foot swipe from side to side.
