Hi

I had an email from Toyota informing me that the Yaris Excel I had ordered was in transit to the UK

The email was dated 16 June

My dealer has told me that the delivery ETA is 27 July

Is a 6 week transit time from France normal?

From France, vehicles go to Toyota Burnaston, via whatever port they enter the UK, where, depending what options are ordered, may have accessories fitted, and are then transported to the appropriate dealer.

Logistics also play a part in deliveries to dealers (ie. delivering several vehicles to a dealer rather than just a single vehicle).

Probably. The dealer is at the mercy of the information they are provided with from Toyota GB. It may arrive earlier and the ETA come forward but that’s wishful thinking.

What you won’t know is that once the ship with hundreds of cars arrives at the port someone has to process the arrival and it’ll be in a queue to go in to Toyota’s workshop at the depot, to be made fit to UK spec (like they might have to fit the alloys for the UK market). Once that’s done it’s then in some sort of queue with the transport company to get to the dealer.

What customers get told from TGB isn’t always what the dealer sees.

The manufacturer I last worked for often delivered cars after the ETA we were advised and we couldn’t get an answer out of them what the hold up was.

They also aren’t particularly bothered by missing these ETAs and the dealer takes the pain from the customer trying to explain why.

Thanks guys for the info

Much appreciated

The MyToyota app said that our YC left the factory a week or so ago, so possibly the same shipment, the dealer has said that it is due to them on the 20th of July.

The My Toyota app said my Yaris premier left the factory on the 19th of June it stayed that way until today which now says in transit Toton uk. Dealer said eta  could be anytime between 9th and 22nd of July.

My Yaris left France on 20th arrived in the UK on 25th June and arrived at the dealer 1st July

You can track the journey on Toyota app. My car went from the factory to Zeebrugge to Bristol docks(!) to Derby to the dealer. There was a week or two delay at each juncture.

Haha, don’t worry, they tend to jump back on the app before they lurch forward.   It’ll probably show up at the dealer if it’s been at Toton.  That really is the rail hub but I was pulling your leg about it going back.

Yeah this morning it’s in Derbyshire. They must have a Tardis🤣

I've just had an email from Toyota saying that my YC is at the dealer, not sure how long it will take them to PDI it and fit the Dashcam that I requested. Mind you my RAV4 was showing on the Toyota app as being with them for a over week before they acknowledged it was there to come and fill in the paperwork.

  • 2 weeks later...

Re the OP I'm hoping it's about 6 weeks - I was told when I ordered it would be mid September so definitely a '74. After I paid the deposit suddenly it might be able to come in sooner and told they couldn't/don't have a policy to hold it when it arrives. It's now left the factory so I'm hoping it takes the scenic route... 😬

Ours arrived at the dealer mid December and they held it until mid March just as we requested when we ordered it late September 2023.

Steven Eagell? I've just had a phone call from the dealer to say it's coming in mid August (so quite a quick turnaround from my order mid June). As I was promised a 74 plate originally they are now saying they cannot hold it "in case it gets damaged"

I did point out many other people have had their cars held but they said the best they can do is if it comes a bit later they could hold it (up to a week) and also they would put a note to "Toyota" (are they going to send the boat around the channel again? 🤣) but its effectively out of their hands....

So I read that fully then as sales target...

While I'm excited to get a new car I'm pretty miffed as I was promised it would be '74 mid/end September and we're only talking a few days!

Hi

I was the original OP and was given a estimated ETA of 27 July

I have now been told the ETA is 31 July but I have not heard if it has arrived

I asked  the following question when I was first informed the date had slipped

"It occurs to me that if delivery slips further into August could the collection be on 1st Sept so it has the new registration plate"

and received the following answer

"I doubt it will slip further into August.

In regards to collecting the car in September Toyota have a rule where as soon as the cars arrives on site we have limited time to get the vehicle delivered.

If the vehicle doesn’t get delivered to the customer quick enough Toyota reallocate the vehicle"

They did not say what the limited time is

So its a case of wait and see

Slippage was probably due to the massive Franco-Anglo cargo backlog through customs in recent weeks.

Maybe we were lucky, but our Yaris Excel only took a fortnight from ordering to collection last Saturday (27th)! Actual build date of the car on the cert was 21st June. Tracking app had it in Grimsby for days, including after we had brought it home!

Just a quick update

The Yaris Excel I had on order arrived at the dealer today, so just a day later than the revised ETA of 31 July

All being well I should collect the car sometime next week 😀

It was Vertu.

I got them to put everything we agreed in writing, if they had gone back on their sales talk I would have the evidence to take them to the law since the agreement was part of our contract. One thing they agreed was that should the finance deal change we would have to option to keep to the one applicable at the point of sale or move to the revised one should it be better. When we did the deal it was 4.9% and £300 contribution, this changed to 4.9% with a £1000 contribution early in the year.

When I asked to move to the new deal the salesman said that his confirmation was incorrect and we could not have the better deal. He tried to blame us saying we had delayed taking delivery sooner, I pointed out that was the part of the deal we did back in September and we had written confirmation of this. It went to the sales manager who agreed with him. Up the tree to the dealer principal with a copy of our agreed terms and he quickly rang apologising saying that of course we could have the better deal since it was agreed at the time.

You have to remember the first 3 rules of car buying:

  1. All Salesmen are liars
  2. All Salesmen are liars
  3. Refer to rules 1 and 2

Get it all in writing, verbal is no good.
