On the door pillar of my 2020 Corolla 1.2t is a sticker as shown , does anyone know if there is any significance to the Toyota Motorsport GmbH , stage 2 reference or is this standard on all Corolla's ?

The car was purchased new from a UK Toyota dealer

Thanks

Mine is a 2024 1.8 hybrid.   It doesn't have a sticker quite like that.   On the passenger side door pillar it has a sticker with VIN, various weights, paint code, other stuff, but no mention of 'Motorsport' or 'Stage 2';   but mine is a hybrid, and post-facelift, so not comparing like with like.

Toyota Motorsport GmbH became Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe in 2020, and they develop motorsport vehicles. Presumably the sticker may indicate the car has had some performance enhancements.

I would be inclined to either contact your Toyota dealer to see whether they know whether this is the case, or contact Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe, and quote the details on the sticker.

If it has had any enhancement, you will need to notify your insurer of what the enhancement is, as they may well consider it a modification - and it may affect your premium ......

The answer is pretty mundane what has happened is after this car was manufactured there was a change to an EU regulation and the car was not sold before the regulation change date came into affect meaning the original WVTA ( whole vehicle type approval ) was no longer valid, in order to sell the car Toyota had to apply for a stage 2 WVTA the sticker gives the newer WVTA approval number as e13*2007/46*2012, for stage 2 applications which have to be made on a car by car basis Toyota use their Motorsport division as they have a specialised department dedicated to making such applications

Thank you for the reply's on this thread ,I also contacted Toyota UK and they responded within 48hrs , this is the message received .

"We have reached out to our technical team who have advised that this sticker is there for the purposes of Type Approval, it denotes that the vehicle was a Multi-stage approval vehicle.

The base vehicle would have received approval in one country and then this specification of vehicle would have had something else fitted during manufacture, such as different bumpers or accessories etc and these would require further type approval, in this instance this approval would have been granted to our Stage 2 Manufacturer, which was Toyota Motorsport GmbH.

The sole purpose of the sticker is to visually denote that the vehicle meets a minimum set of regulatory, technical and safety requirements. Generally, type approval is required before a product is allowed to be sold in a particular country, so the requirements for a given product will vary around the world. Processes and certifications known as type approval in English are often called homologation, or some cognate expression, in other European languages.

Thank you for contacting Toyota GB, I hope that this helps!  "
