Perhaps mone and the others will pay back the monies given to them for the ppe scandal, maybe nadine will pay back the 80 grand she was paid for employing her daughters for basically doing not much, and , regarding the ECHR, they are also OUR human rights scrapping them would be a very bad idea..

What about Michelle Mone and the strong links her family had with a company during the pandemic. In 2020, PPE Medpro was awarded two government contracts worth around £203 million to supply personal protective equipment (PPE). The contracts were granted without a competitive bidding process, as the UK government used emergency measures to expedite PPE procurement at the height of the pandemic. It will be interesting to see the outcome of this.😡

Now Starmer is handing back the Chagos Islands, and we will now be paying them a subsidy for at least the next 99 years.  How much will that cost, compared to the Winter Fuel payment that is unaffordable for a great number of UK pensioners?

What did Reeves spout repeatedly on her first speech at the dispatch box?   “If we can’t afford it, we won’t do it.”

It's nice and warm there isn't it?

How about sending us on a winter break to the islands in exchange for the loss of the winter fuel payment.

No way - more likely to send us to Bikini Atoll, hopefully to get us soaked in radiation and so get rid of us.   Whenever pensioners are mentioned by the government, the Far Left and the Far Right, the tone is always indicative that we are a burden, in the way and should make our exit ASAP.  The UK isn’t a welcoming place for Greyheads.

Don't worry, Albert.Perhaps the assisted dying bill will be the first step towards a future of euthanasia, likely for anyone over the age of 50. Think of the money they will save on pensions etc.☹️

This morning’s BBC News shows Starmer, Reeves and Miliband - the three stooges? - in hi-viz jackets, grinning away at the camera.  Pledging £22bn for carbon capture.  Funny, sounds like a deficit figure Reeves blamed on the Tories, and one denied by the Tories.

Reeves - “If we can’t afford it, we won’t do it!”

I can save the country a lot of money, AND give back the confiscated Winter Fuel Payment.   JUST PLANT ONE HECK OF A LOT MORE TREES!  -  Simples!

To be clear regarding the chaos islands, the government has completed the agreement started by the previous government, James cleverly was bemoaning how labour have given away the islands, who was the chancellor who started the process….James cleverly…!

400 more boat people arrived today.  This continual, and apparently unstoppable, influx of these people makes me wonder this.  At some future date, will the cost of supporting these people gradually consume virtually all of the revenue collected by the treasury?  As this cost progresses, what might be the priorities in cutting back what funds remain available for UK citizens?  Unless the influx is stopped on a permanent basis, these considerations will have to be addressed.  There will always be the lobby that argues on behalf of the migrants, and likely to be without thinking of the welfare of the indigenous population.  The demands on behalf of migrants could also be multiplied if any UK government should decide to allow them citizenship n masse.  I, for one, am alarmed by what could happen to our country at some future date - I may be in my late 80s, but I have younger (some very young) descendants who could suffer fearfully.

I'm sorry Albert, but I object to that phrase - my hair is described as silver, well it is by the fella I keep seeing in the mirror! 😉

Yes, I know, I live in Ireland, but it is more than likely that when my wife retires in about three years, (unless the age criteria gets changed again before then), we will likely return to the UK. Having said that, watching BBC News and reading comments in this forum, we might not bother!

David, if you are considering moving back to the UK, i think you need to have a serious talk with yourself and your wife. What possible reason could you ever want to consider to come back here. Surely Ireland has to offer more then this ever does.🤔

But why apply for asylum here in the UK. Didn't they pass through a number of other countries where they could have asked for asylum. They would then have been able to work and contribute to the economy of that country??

You don’t have to claim asylum in the first country you pass through, that’s just a right wing media made up story

Many do stay in Europe. Many have friends or relatives here to support them. They may speak a little English which is more likely than them speaking the language of other countries the pass through. There are lots of reasons they may choose to come here - it is not our lucrative benefits system, BUPA healthcare and luxurious accommodation as the Daily hate Mail and GB News would have you believe.

Correct and it was much easier to return them prior to Brexit which the RW Brexit supporting press are not keen to discuss.

The topic is regarding the new Labour administration.

It isn't about the rights or wrongs of immigration, whether illegal or otherwise.

Can someone explain if it's just a coincidence, or is the £22 billion climate capture fund the same amount as the £22 billion black hole that Labour keeps talking about🤔

And, IMHO, this is the reason that politicians shouldn't be anywhere near anything to do with infrastructure and/or long term projects as "the next lot" may simply stop them therefore "wasting" £Billions.
