My toyota avensis is dying and I'd really like someone to use the good parts!  It's an automatic 2000 and has 160,000 on the clock.  Catalyser gone and rusting underneath.  will fail MOT definitely know that and too much money to repair, into thousands but would be a great shame to scrap it and see it crushed without someone using the good bits! Any ideas , would anyone be interested?  It could even be restored and be a classic car next year but I can't do it, so advice would be good.

So old car and in the uk the corrosion can  be a killer plus there will be definitely more bits that needs attention. If it’s just the cat there are universal kits available that will work and won’t cost as much as the original Toyota exhaust. The rust is the real thing.
You can advertise your car in Facebook, eBay, gumtree as project or spares and repair, however to succeed you need to take good quality pictures all around including exterior, interior, boot, engine bay and underneath.
My car will follow similar suit in the next year or two for the very same reasons and my plan is to take everything that has been fitted last like new batteries, recent wheels, and whatever can be taken that has value and scrap the car then sell the parts on these websites. Rise some cash for new car or use these in the new car.
Good luck

Thanks everybody for your advice, couldn't possibly take the car apart myself so have scrapped it with Charles Trent in Dorset who will use all good functioning parts - kinda 'donated' it in tears (haha) - been such a brilliant car for 15 years so will defo think about another toyota so will not leave the website - the info I got from you about the car 'eating' oil was absolutely spot on and I fed it and checked the levels regularly which I'm sure kept it sweet, thanks again and great website!!

Thanks for update and I wish you all the best with the new one.
Toyota cars are indeed really good ones. A Corolla hybrid can be a good replacement. These are so easy to drive, very efficient, reliable and hold value well.
