Hi all, I'm new to the forum and to being a C-HR owner. I found it difficult to find a detailed guide on exactly how to install a front/rear Dashcam as permanently live, so I worked it out and wrote up my findings in this guide:

Anyone choosing to install a Dashcam (or any other accessory) as permanently live should be aware of the potential consequences in respective of the 12V auxiliary Battery and have a read of this thread:

Toyota install to a switched live for a reason ... 😉

I used the same Dashcam hard wired permanently live to my previous car (a petrol Honda) for over a year with zero Battery problems. It draws very little current when in sleep mode, only coming online to film for 3 minutes if it detects vibration. I did use my car most days though so that easily kept the Battery topped up and it might have masked a potential problem otherwise. If I were leaving the car for an extended period I would probably disconnect the dashcam's fuse connector - takes 30 seconds.

I wired mine to the 12v outlet so it powers on and off with the engine.

Just be aware that some insurers consider a hard wired dash cam a modification - check with your insurer.
