Lexus cuts prices on some of their EV & hybrid models

I noted that along with another article saying private buyers are simply refusing to pay the high prices of new cars. Non fleet buyer sales are down 15% but used sales are up over 6%. The ridiculous EV mandate fines will be paid for by the customers, politicians don’t seem to understand you can’t force people to buy something they don’t want. They even less understand car buyers are not all able to benefit from salary sacrifice schemes.

Yeah, they really are putting the cart before the horse with EVs. They aren't ready for mainstream use and won't be until Battery tech breakthroughs come to market and achieve economies of scale, and they start taking the infrastructure seriously instead of just a grant grab.

The stupidest thing is this transition will have almost no effect on global emissions and pollution or whatever they think they will be improving by forcing people to drive them - If anything, forcing people to get rid of old but perfectly serviceable vehicles prematurely is worse from a pollution and resource depletion point of view. In the long term maybe, assuming EVs have similar longevity to conventional vehicles, but it'll get worse before it gets better.

If they'd just let the transition happen at its natural pace we'd all have been better off. They should have followed Toyota's road map.
