I've driven slightly over 17,000 miles in the MY23 and this was a new one on me.

I was using dynamic cruise in moderate traffic, in only mildly moist conditions on the motorway and a car pulled left and got out of my way creating a gap my car decided to  accelerate into. So far, so ordinary.

Then another car pulled in, in front of me, and the radar on my Corolla just didn't see it!

My car carried on accelerating with no little white car showing on the graphic on the dash board.

I really don't know what might have happened if I hadn't intervened.

Clearly I don't rely on these systems, they're just an aid after all, so I'm not just going to let the car drive itself up the exhaust of the car in front, but it was certainly very strange.

After I braked and re-engaged the Cruise control the car saw the car in front as expected and normal service resumed.

Very odd.

This is the latest technology machine learning and and we called- “ Toyota intelligence” - . The car monitors behaviour of other drivers and adapt to their driving styles and patterns to blend smoothly with the environment.
Now available on Corolla exclusively, coming on all other models this fall.
🍎 Just kidding 😅

Not a big fan of adaptive systems myself, they always seem to over or under react to the situation by some degree.

One of the things I really like about my Corolla is the ability to choose simple fixed-speed cruise control by holding the button down a little longer. My last car was VAG and that was adaptive-or-nothing (it also pooped the bed occasionally, just like the Toyota system) - very frustrating.

I haven't had the DRCC make an attempt on my life - yet - but I am also tending to use the simple 'non-smart' CC in preference to the DRCC.   I just don't find the DRCC particularly smooth and I have had a couple of problems with it reacting to parked cars.

What I do like with the Corolla is that the control buttons are on the steering wheel where they are very easy and quick to reach.   On my last two cars (Audi and Skoda) the cruise control was operated on a third stalk, below the indicator stalk, which was just less ergonomic to use.

I’ve had this happen myself, the system is generally very good but people cutting into a gap in front of you causes issues.

im wary of anyone doing this after I had the same issue as you once and am ready to disconnect the DCC if necessary.

the worst system I’ve used was on a Honda as their system was only camera based and too slow to react. In traffic that was slowing down and speeding up it would be so bad that the car would brake firmly quite late to slowing traffic. Then because there was now a big gap it would floor the accelerator and race towards the car in front. But if the traffic in front was slowing then it would suddenly panic and trigger the collision warning on itself. It was so bad I never used DCC on the car. It would even slow for cars in another lane, before realising its mistake and then flooring the accelerator.
