Hi all,

Can someone please confirm that my Yaris 2012 (mk3) has a CVT auto gearbox and no MMT? The local garage told me this car has no CVT auto. They also state that there is no transmission oil filter present.

It has a 1.33 engine, non hybrid. Type is XP13M(A).

Can you drop me a PM with your VIN

ps. a XP13 or P13 is a Mk1 Yaris T-Sport

3 door Yaris

Built - 01/2012

Model - NSP130L-CGXNKW that makes it a XP130

Gearbox - CVT K410

Filter - 35330-52060

Filter o-ring - 90301-22014

Pan gasket - 35168-52030

only use Toyota CVTF TC or FE or equivalent fluid

you can confirm that with any Toyota main dealer

The only MMT used in the Mk3 was with the 1.4 diesel (1ndtv) and they are very rare

Thanks a lot for this information, very helpful! I'm going to another Toyota dealership that actually knows what type of transmission their own cars have and know how to change the transmission oil.

That picture could very easily be my own car. Multidrive (C.V.T.). The same seat material, selector knob (is the "profanity filter" now sensible? It accepted knob!) and selector gate.

My car is in to a franchised dealer's, next Monday, for C.V.T. fluid change. The only reason I am using the dealer is they should use the correct Toyota fluid, so they told me, and the correct procedure.

You would certainly know if it was a MMT.😎

I think you can tell from the selector gate and the symbols what kind of auto transmission it is. Found this in the owners manual (see attached image). Above shows the CVT, below is MMT (it describes the procedure to unlock a shift lever that is stuck in Parking mode).

Did the dealer say anything about the costs to change the CVT fluid?

You better don’t go to that place for any work on your car if the mechanics can’t recognise your model as what transmission has.
Find someone who knows what they are doing.  Auto transmission specialist or Toyota specialist, independent mechanic, but someone familiar.
Good luck

Yes thanks! That is exactly what I am going to do right now.

Yes, it's not cheap and I didn't expect it to be!

Initially he thought the price is the same as a "conventional" gearbox, around £55-£60. After going away briefly to check he came up with £130. He did say that customers usually ask for it as an extra when having their car serviced.

No doubt the independent, where I have the car serviced etc., would be cheaper, but they probably use some equivalent (or wrong) fluid.

Yes, the selector gates are different, but the driving experience with the M.M.T. is totally  ------ insert suitable expletives.

Well, that didn't go well at all and demonstrates why I haven't used a franchised dealer for over five years.

I opted for a sit and wait. "Should be completed in around an hour." Almost five hours later I managed to escape.

The numpty working on my car drained all the old fluid then discovered they didn't have any in stock. I'll leave it at that other than to comment that nobody in their right mind either drains fluid or removes parts UNTIL replacements are confirmed in stock and available. Otherwise said vehicle is immobilised until then.

Two consolations, the hot chocolae and biscuits were nice and I got a 15% discount!🙄

Parting comment - "We hope to see you again soon." Answered with "I very much doubt it."

Yeah, it's funny how they do that, you would think common sense was a requirement in the motor trade.

Even something as simple as an oil and filter change left me sitting around for hours until some bright spark thought it was a good idea to maybe order some oil and a filter from the motor factors to be delivered, despite having 5 days notice to do so.

So when the van driver had finished scratching himself, had a meal deal, and decided to actually do his job and deliver something to somewhere, they arrived.

The "mechanic" had a good wander round the garage, staring at various random articles, sat on the toilet reading max power for 20 minutes or so, then decided to see if the ramps worked.

Got it up there, left the oil to drain, and I assume went for a long walk, maybe he was into bird watching or something.

By this time I was starting to get hungry and dehydrated, so suggested that they give me a ring in a few days to let me know it's done, and I will get a taxi home.

The sarcasm flew over the collective heads of the highly skilled people there I think, but they moved into high gear, which looked like they had overdosed on mogadon, and I got away after only 4 hours.

Not a Toyota dealer, I hasten to add, but a small chain with a good reputation.

Makes me wonder what the bad ones are like.

I received a "walk around" video too. He was quite proud of the first few seconds showing the fluid draining into a bucket! Oh, a "health report" thrown in too. All green - tough, you couldn't find any thing to upsell.

Rather than those it would have been more sensible to check there was replacement fluid available. I'm also wondering, in spite of being told the correct new fluid was added, someone didn't drive to Halfords and buy some generic stuff? The invoice isn't very specific and "CVT fluid" is written on it.

It didn't go down well when I asked if a recent school leaver was carrying out the work.😎😂
