My wife borrowed my Corolla the other day, and made a call back home. I'm a bit shocked how crappy a sound the factory mic provides.

Loads of background noise, but blurry voices, and some words cuts out.

It seems like a simple replacement, but are there any aftermarket mics in better quality/ filter background noises, that just clicks in place?

At the risk of suggesting the obvious, could it actually have been her location and poor phone signal that caused the issue?

Just suggesting this because, whilst I have never received a call from my own car, no-one that I have spoken to from the car has complained or commented about audio quality.

I make quite a lot of calls, and 75% says that 'they can hear I'm in the car'.

I made it a habit to move a little closer to the microphone, and speaking as directly as possible. I do know that audio quality is'nt great, but I'm a little shocked that it was that bad.

Do your middle air vents point “up” towards the mic?

No. And fans are on low settings when I'm on the phone.

Talking to other people in their cars show that even low cost models from other brands can do better than Toyota.

Such a shame that a simple cheap component comes in lowest possible quality. If I'm lucky the microphone from 2024 Corolla might just fit, and maybe has been upgraded compared to 2019 models.

I suggest you discuss it with your dealer as it sounds like a fault to me.  My car (not corolla) uses the same hardware and no complaints.

I don't use the one in my Yaris much - Half the conversations turn into a Trigger Happy TV sketch

HELLO? HELLO? NO I'M IN THE YARIS! NO, NOT PARIS, YARIS! YAH-RISS!! I'M DRIVING! NO NOT SKIVING! DRIVING! WITH A D!! IT'S THE ROAD NOISE! NO NOT OLD TOYS! OH FORGET IT I'LL CALL YOU LATER! NO I DIDN'T CALL YOU A HATER oh ffs *click* :whistling1:

To be fair it's not all the car's fault - We've realized that for some reason the phone's mic doesn't mute itself sometimes and it's picking up sound from the phone AND the car leading to echo, and lots of noise etc.

My wifes Aygo is like that. And it's not the phone making echos. The microphone is just pure crap.
